Set in the 1960's, Easy Listening is a masterful period piece, with the feel of old happy old happy commercials, Burt makes a living playing trumpet in an elevator music orchestra. At home he's hostage to routine phone calls by his crazy ex and the hefty alimony he owes her. Enters Linda, a fresh-faced flutist with a passion for instrumental pop. Though she is half Burt's age, Burt is smitten and tries to impress her. Linda in turn is impressed by his musical talent and talks him into coaching her as she prepares for the arrival of a professional orchestra scout. It turns out be Linda however who coaches Burt to loosen up and rid himself of misery, bringing out a musical talent in Burt no one else had realized.
